FAQ THC RSO Infused Rice Krispie Treats

How do you infuse Rice Krispie treats with THC?

The secret is in the butter! Instead of plain butter, you use THC RSO-infused butter, which carries the cannabis evenly throughout the entire batch. Since butter is fat-based and THC binds to fats, every treat gets a consistent dose of THC. The melted marshmallows and warm butter mixture coat all the dry ingredients evenly, making this one of the most reliable no-bake edible methods out there.

Do I need to make my own RSO-infused butter for this recipe?

You do — but it's easier than you think! Hashtag has a dedicated step-by-step guide on how to make RSO-infused butter and coconut oil right on their blog. Once you've made a batch of RSO butter, it keeps well in the fridge and can be used across multiple recipes. Think of it as a one-time prep step that unlocks a whole world of homemade cannabis edibles!

What are the "Kitchen Sink" mix-ins and do I have to use them?

Not at all — they're completely optional! Chef David's version uses peanut butter M&M's, pretzels, and potato chips for a sweet-salty-crunchy combo that's seriously addictive. But you can keep it classic with plain Rice Krispie treats, or swap in your own favorite mix-ins like chocolate chips, dried fruit, or gummy candies. The cannabis infusion works the same regardless of what you add!

Why is it important not to press the mixture too firmly into the pan?

Great technique tip! Pressing too hard compacts the treats and makes them dense and tough instead of light and chewy. The goal is to gently encourage the mixture into the pan so it holds its shape without being squished. Think of it less like packing and more like coaxing — use your hands or a lightly buttered spatula and press just enough to level the top.

How long do THC RSO Rice Krispie treats last?

Stored in an airtight container, they'll stay fresh for about two days at room temperature — though Chef David jokes they rarely last that long! For longer storage, wrap individual treats in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to a week. Always store them clearly labeled as THC-infused and well out of reach of children or anyone who isn't expecting a cannabis edible.

Are THC Rice Krispie treats a good edible for beginners?

They can be — but portion control is key! Because the THC is distributed throughout the entire batch via the infused butter, the potency per treat depends on how much RSO was in the butter and how many pieces you cut. For newer consumers, cutting the batch into smaller pieces and starting with just one is the smart move. Wait at least an hour before deciding whether to have more.
