Interview with Nicole, Director of Cannabis Sales at Sky High Gardens
by Keivan K, social media and content creation
How long have you worked at Sky High, and what do you love about your job?
“I have worked at Sky High Gardens for almost 6 years now, and honestly, I love the community. I love both of my bosses too a lot; they support me in a lot of ways, Phil and Scott; they have been my No. 1 supporters, and the reason why I've been so successful in this business, from taking time off to writing me letters about how much they love having me around, and even just to outings with them, like going out to dinner or having drinks, they're always making sure that I'm included, and that I feel at home here, when I work at Sky High Gardens.”
Tell us about Sky High. How long have you been in business?
“We started in 2014 as a medical company right over on Harbour Island, and now we're in a new building here in SoDo, and we've grown a lot as a company, have really built an amazing team since then, and happen to be in over 100 active retailers now in Washington State. We are looking to grow more, create new products, and fund new things for everybody to get their hands on.”
What is your favorite Sky High strain?
“My favorite strain is, I mean, come on, the Pineapple Chunk; she's our bread and butter—it's what we're known for. She'll always be a staple in my household, so she's always around.
“I also like to mix it up, I love our Kush Mints. It really just has that really gassy funk that I love in weed, and Pineapple Chunk, she's more of a citrus, but then you get that gassy funk with the Kush Mints, and I love them, even put together sometimes.”
What do you think makes Sky High different from other farms?
“Sky High is different from other farms because, as I like to say, we put a craft touch on all of our products, and what craft means to us is growing in smaller batches and having the human touch on all of our plants, so nothing is machine or automated here at our facility.
“We do own a Tier 3 indoor producer processor license, but we operate more like a Tier 2. We still hand water all of our plants, hand trim all of our weed, and hand pack all of our joints. Your orders are even packaged the day before they arrive at your shop, as well as your joints being made.
“Craft is defined by taking the extra necessary steps to not skip any steps in your process and to just make sure that everything is curated perfectly for the best experience possible for the consumer.”
Who makes the artwork for each strain's packaging?
“The artwork is done by a mix of people. We have a marketing team that we work with that essentially makes it LCB (Liqour Cannabis Board) approved, but they also take the ideas that Phil and the team come up with.
“So we'll grow the plant, smoke it, and then kind of get a vibe and an idea of what we want the consumer to take away when they look at the packaging. For example, with our Tokyo Snow, which is old Japanese artwork to help symbolize that this strain is like a ‘Hibachi Supreme Tokyo Snow finest,’ we really want the artwork to just take away from what you get from the strain.”
What does Sky High have planned for the future?
“The future, well, we're always just looking to improve our canopy, and what I mean by that is quality, not necessarily more weed. We want to always improve the quality of our product and put it back into our grow. The future holds hopefully lots of new products, but definitely new genetics, and just honing in on the craft that we already have and making it better and better each time.”
