Everywhere In The World You Can Buy Marijuana

By Jeff Eckenrode, COO

Marijuana (cannabis) is growing in popularity, not only in the United States, but throughout the world.

Recently, the CDC reported that 48.2 million people (or 18% of Americans) used marijuana at least once in 2019.

And since 2012 when Washington and Colorado legalized cannabis for adult use, twenty-three other states and Washington, D.C have legalized cannabis, too!

But cannabis is used in more places than that! Marijuana has a long history of use as a fiber, a food, and a medicine … dating as far back as 5,000 years ago!

If you’re packing your bags to travel the world, here's a list of all the places you’ll find legal, recreational cannabis dispensaries!

Canada

Since 2018, Canada has legalized the sale of recreational cannabis to adults. Heads up, though! The age to buy marijuana from a dispensary varies by province: 19 in most provinces, 18 in Alberta, and 21 in Quebec.

Fun fact! Canada has one of the biggest, nationalized cannabis industries. Many economists estimate its value at over $10 billion dollars!

Thailand

Located in the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is known for its delicious cuisine, picturesque islands, and long history with cannabis!

Some of the highest-quality marijuana in the 1970s came from Thailand.

Known informally as “Thai Stick,” the marijuana buds grown by hill tribes in the northeast traditionally used silk lines to hold these “Thai buds” together around bamboo sticks or hemp stalks.

Today, you can purchase recreational cannabis legally from dispensaries in Thailand.

But know this! A 0.2% THC limit applies to processed products such as cannabis oils and edibles. However, that limit does not include the cannabis plant!

Guam

A U.S. territory in the western Pacific Ocean, cannabis in Guam has been legal for medical use since 2015 and for recreational use since April 2019!

In fact, Guam was the very first United States territory to legalize medical marijuana dispensaries, passing via a ballot referendum in 2014.

Uruguay

Located in southern South America, Uruguay is bordered by Argentina in the west, by Brazil in the north and northeast, and by the Atlantic Ocean in the southeast.

Although marijuana has been legal for adults to buy from a dispensary since 2013, you must be a resident to buy it!

Oddly enough, cannabis users must register with Urugay authorities because only they can grow the cannabis that can be sold legally in dispensaries.
