Tis’ The Season of Giving: Introducing the Hashtag Holiday Drive

By Brianna Newton-Jackson, outreach lead at Hashtag Cannabis

The holiday season, and the winter months in general, are so difficult for many of us to get through, and here at Hashtag Cannabis, we want to do all we can to support our community during the holidays and beyond.

Please join us in supporting three ways to give this holiday season: Mr. Moxey’s The Giving Mint, Last Prisoner Project’s holiday letter writing drive, and our Hashtag Holiday Drive to collect food for local food banks!

Mr. Moxey’s Giving Mint

This year, we can all enjoy Mr. Moxey’s dietary-friendly, easily microdosed mints while knowing that each tin we purchase becomes $2 donated to nonprofits -- the annual Giving Mint.

Mr. Moxey’s Special Edition tin, Giving Mint 2:1 CBD mints.

Mr. Moxey’s pledged to donate $1 for every special edition Holiday tin sold to Compass Housing Alliance, helping end homelessness in our community.

Who is Compass Housing Alliance? They develop and provide essential services and affordable housing for homeless and low-income people in the greater Puget Sound region. Envisioning a world in which every person lives in a safe, caring community.

And this year, Mr. Moxey's will donate an additional $1 for every tin sold to Cannabis for Black Lives, who are dedicated to supporting Black-led organizations and communities in Washington.

Join Mr. Moxey’s in a month of giving this holiday season, shop their tasty mints, and pick up a tin or two of the Giving Mint at our Seattle shop or our Redmond shop!

Last Prisoner Project

“Imagine sitting in a cell for years, decades, or even for life, convicted of an activity that is no longer a crime, while thousands of other people build intergenerational wealth doing exactly the same thing.

That is the situation that over 40,000 cannabis prisoners face today in the United States alone, while countless others languish in jails and prisons worldwide. The Last Prisoner Project (LPP) is a nonprofit coalition of cannabis industry leaders, executives, and artists dedicated to bringing restorative justice to the cannabis industry.”

In August 2020, Hashtag placed donation boxes at our registers at both Seattle & Redmond shops, raising funds for the Last Prisoner Project as part of their Roll It Up for Justice initiative.

Hashtag Cannabis is proud to be one of the first cannabis retailers in Washington state to participate in this necessary work of raising funds for the Last Prisoner Project.

If you'd like to donate to LPP yourself, just drop some cash in the clear boxes at our registers! Once a month, Hashtag collects all funds raised, matches what you’ve donated, and makes one monthly donation to LPP.

November’s total is still being tallied, but we know that through October 2020, together we have raised $6,460 in combined donations for the Last Prisoner Project! Thank you from everyone here at Hashtag, and please do not forget we are still accepting & matching donations!

Here’s a way you can support the Last Prisoner Project without making a monetary donation, let a cannabis prisoner know you are fighting for them with a holiday letter.

This year, LPP invites their supporters to send some well wishes to those folks who are still currently incarcerated for cannabis-related crimes this holiday season. There are some strict guidelines for the letters, so please check out LPP’s Holiday Letter Drive for a detailed guide and important instructions.

“This past year has been incredibly difficult for prisoners with COVID restricting access to visitations and frequent lockdowns restricting internet access so handwritten letters can really go a long way. Sending a holiday letter to an incarcerated cannabis prisoner reminds them that they have not been forgotten.”
