By Jeff Eckenrode
There’s a lot going on in the world right now.
Maybe you’re headed back to the office this year? Or navigating the ups and downs that come with winter’s dreary weather? Or dodging one gloom-and-doom headline after another.
No matter what you’re finding yourself up against in 2025, it’s likely you could use a little pick me up.
Luckily, cannabis may be able to help lift your spirits!
But how can cannabis help with a good mood?
If you’re looking to learn more about cannabis and how it can help to improve your mood and everyday life then you’ve come to the right place!
How can cannabis help improve my mood?
Cannabis is widely known for its recreational uses. But it also has mood-enhancing effects too!
At the center of cannabis’s mood-altering effects is the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a complex network of receptors and chemical messengers found throughout your body.
The ECS plays a crucial role in regulating a lot of physiological processes, including: appetite, pain sensation and, you guessed it, mood!
What types of cannabis are best at improving my mood?
While a great deal of attention is placed on THC, there are other cannabinoids that also contribute to the way cannabis interacts with our bodies and brains.
On top of that these other cannabinoids, often called “minor cannabinoids” can interact with one another and modify the resulting effects.
Can CBD improve my mood?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one cannabinoid that is produced naturally by cannabis plants (just like THC!).
But unlike THC, CBD is a non-intoxicating part of cannabis. Which means it won’t get you high. But it can make you feel really good.
Cannabis research also suggests that CBD, along with other chemicals found in cannabis, can have unique health benefits, including: reducing anxiety and improving your mood.
CBD has even proven itself to be effective in combating the adverse, uncomfortable aspects of a THC high!
Can CBG improve my mood?
CBG, otherwise known as Cannabigerol, is the third most prevalent cannabinoid after THC and CBD.
CBG is often referred to as “the mother of all cannabinoids” because it is the first cannabinoid the cannabis plant produces. Its acidic form — CBG-A – is the original compound from which all other cannabinoids are derived from.
So we can think of cannabinoids like THC and CBD as the children of CBG.
CBG is most frequently found in strains of cannabis that have a low amount of THC and a high amount of CBD.
Together, CBD and CBG work in concert to relax, relieve and rejuvenate our bodies (and our minds!). The result? A refreshing sense of relaxation.
Many people utilize the power of CBG’s stress fighting and anxiety relieving properties.
Often referred to as “CBGiggles”, CBG is renowned for its ability to uplift one’s mood.
CBG may also provide feelings of giddy, goofy elation.
